Spotlight on Loch Lomond

One of the the most well known and popular location in Scotland is Loch Lomond. It’s also one of the highlights on our Loch Lomond, The Highlands & Stirling Castle Scottish day tours from Edinburgh.

Over 4 million people visit Loch Lomond and the Trossachs every year to see the stunning landscape of the National Park which covers 720 square miles and has a boundary 220 miles long. 

An amazing stretch of natural beauty it’s been photographed millions of times and has featured in many tv programmes, books and movies, Loch Lomond is must see place for anyone visiting Scotland.

No one know the area like our tour guides – it’s history, stories, people and wildlife. Here’s some tips from them of what you should look out for there. 

Munros

In case you don’t know, a Munro is a Scottish mountain with is over 3,000 feet high. The national park is home to 21 Munroes.  Three of the easiest ones to concur that you can start with are Ben Lui, Ben Vorlich and Ben Lomond.  Ask your tour guide to point them out on your tour. 

Loch Lomond Islands

There are a total of 23 islands on Loch Lomond with Inchmurrin Island being the biggest.  It’s the  largest piece of land on an inland lake or loch in the UK covering 120 hectares. Once a deer park the island has been visited by Royalty including James VI and is known to have been raided by the legendary Rob Roy.

Boat Trips

Hop off the road and hit the water.  The best way to see Loch Lomond is by sailing on it. The loch is is 36.4 kilometres (22.6 mi) long and between 1 and 8 kilometres wide so there’s lots to see.  

Loch Lomond Sea Life Centre

If you don’t fancy hitting the water you can learn all about the Loch and who lives in it and around it at the Loch Lomond Sea Life Centre. Look out for the sharks, sting rays, sea horses and star fish 🙂

Visit the Beach

There are many beaches to be found along the length of Loch Lomond. An unexpected find for many, take our shoes off an have a dip, or sit, relax and enjoy beautiful the peace and tranquility of Loch Lomond before you return from your Scottish Day Tour.
